Training

Mark and Andy - Safety is paramount (so Mark should have tied his chin strap!)Regular training sessions are available to members from May to July on Tuesday evenings. The members running the training go through many aspects of sailing from starting to rules. A separate introduction to racing course is being provided as well. This year it is proposed to encourage training of interested school parties.

The Club has attained the status of a RYA Recognised Training Establishment (RTE), and in addition, are trying to qualify as a Volvo RYA Champion Club. The latter scheme should be extremely beneficial for our young members, while the former will allow us to offer training courses to other youngsters from outside the Club.

The Club currently includes among its members six who have some form of recognised RYA training approval and even more importantly two registered senior instructors one of whom (John Crosby from the Calvert Trust) gave us all the support necessary to become an RTE.

The Club is fortunate to benefit from ten training boats comprising six Toppers (grant aided by the Foundation for Sports and the Arts, and Sport England lottery) two Optimists (grant aided by the Eric Twiname Trust), a GP14 and two Wayfarers. All the training boats are available for use by members
