Welcome …..To Bassenthwaite Youth Squad

Any active young member Bassenthwaite Sailing Club can consider themselves part of the Bassenthwaite Youth Squad.

The aim of the Youth Squad is to provide training, support and encouragement to young sailors, whatever their experience, to develop their sailing skills and racing knowledge and experience with the ultimate aim of encouraging more young sailors to progress eventually to participate in club racing.

The club and the Youth Squad endeavour to achieve this via:

• Providing specific training for novice young sailors at the structured “Tuesday evening” training sessions which run from April to July each year.

• Provide more advanced coaching and race training young sailors at “Saturday morning” coaching sessions running from August to early October. A number of these will be supervised by an official RYA coach the remainder will be overseen by experienced club members.

• Entry into the end of year Youth Squad championship weekend.

• For the more experienced young sailors there will be access to mentoring from more experienced sailors within the club to help ease the transition to full club racing. Members of the Youth Squad will also have access to a range of the club’s facilities to support them including: club boats and bouyancy aids.

The proposed dates for “Saturday morning” (11 to 1pm) Youth Squad Training sessions are:

• 24th July Potential RYA coaching

• 20th August

• 27th August Potential RYA coaching

• 3rd Sep Potential RYA coaching

• 10th Sep Potential RYA coaching

• 17th Sep Potential RYA coaching

• 24th Sep Potential RYA coaching
